There was a lot of food and fun, and even a bit of rain, but that did not deter the end of program picnic celebration for Parent-Child Home Program Jeffco, a program of Jeffco Schools Foundation.

PCHP Jeffco End of Year Picnic

Teddy Bear Picnic. PCHP Jeffco children selected stuffed animals to take home.

PCHP Jeffco is the first Colorado replication of a highly respected national program that provides trained literacy mentors to low-income families of two and three-year-olds. Through home visits, parents are taught activities which develop strong language and pre-literacy skills. Mentors are basically life-coaches for the mothers and fathers.  Backed by forty-years of research, PCHP Jeffco seeks to break the cycles of poverty-related literacy gaps.

In addition to providing literacy mentoring to the children, home visitors are able to provide information and connect families to pre- school and county-wide services, reduced-rate community programs and educational opportunities for the parents.

With the success of its first year, PCHP Jeffco will hire additional staff and expand capacity from its initial 24 children to 50 in the fall.

PCHP Jeffco is becoming a key support system for low-income families with pre-school children.
