Colorado PTA has received a grant from National PTA to provide presentations to help educate parents, families, and communities about our various state assessments and standardized tests, including CMAS (Colorado Measures of Academic Success) and PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers).

“We are not advocating for or against these tests,” said Colorado PTA President Cindy Daisley, “but hoping to help our parents and families better understand these state and federally mandated assessments.”

The assessment presentations will be conducted by trained teachers. Colorado PTA has partnered with the Colorado Education Association to ensure trained teachers, preferably from the school/PTA hosting the presentation, are available.

Local PTAs will receive $400 for having an assessment presentation at their school (with a minimum of 25 adult attendees). An additional $100 will go to the teacher giving the presentation.

During the 2015 Colorado Legislative Session, Colorado PTA advocated for a reduction in state mandated testing. A recent survey conducted of our members shows this is still a high priority for parents, teachers, and families.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to help families better understand these tests, how testing has changed over the past several years, the content they cover, and how they’re used to measure student growth. Educated parents are empowered and better able to make decisions for their children,” Daisley said.

The assessment presentations will be offered now thru the end of November. To schedule a presentation, please contact the Colorado PTA office at 303-420-7820 or office@copta.org.
