connected to Jeffco Public Schools through Books for Kids, a fund of Jeffco Schools Foundation.
Funded by donations, Books for Kids distributes new books at Jeffco’s high need schools to encourage second grade literacy. With the help of classroom teachers, books are selected according to a child’s interest, and a bookplate is personalized with their name.
“Every book begins with a story in someone’s imagination,” said Pat Stromberg, a master storyteller who also volunteers with Jeffco Spellbinders. “We encourage students to use their imagination through storytelling, and promote reading by giving them their own book to take home.”
The JCRSEA team has been distributing books since 1999 and estimates that over 16,000 students have received books through Books for Kids.
