Continuing its commitment to Jeffco Public Schools student artists, Jeffco Schools Foundation 2015 Equity and Excellence Art Exhibit will open February 5th and run through March 31, 2015 at Jeffco Public Schools Education Center, 1829 Denver West Drive, #27, Golden. The public is invited to an artists’ celebration on Friday, March 13, 2014 from 5 to 7pm.
Now in its 14th year, the exhibit is coordinated by art teachers Aimee Pickar, Swanson Elementary School, and Phyllis Bubeck, Wayne Carle Middle School. It is the only K through 12th grade Jeffco student exhibit. Students explore different perspectives of ethnic and cultural diversity and create accompanying artists’ statements describing their work and the process used to create it.
“Anytime a student receives recognition, they are more likely to pursue something,” Pickar said. “We see that a lot in sports, but it’s also true of the arts. Visual arts also promote critical thinking and problem solving.”
Jeffco School Foundation is in its sixth year of adopting Jeffco student art shows. The Foundation acknowledges the support of the Betty and Joe Wetherbee Arts and Music Fund and thanks its funding partners in its efforts to support the arts in Jeffco Public Schools: Comcast, FirstBank, Kaiser Permanente, Kroenke Sports and Entertainment, Wells Fargo and Westerra Credit Union.
